Expanding Our Online Menu: Honoring Tradition, Adding Fun

At Mosaic, one of the things we are most excited about this year is expanding our online menu. While our beloved standards like mini meatloaves, kasha varnishkes, and herb-roasted chicken will always be available to order, we want to bring you more fun, seasonal, and nostalgic options that connect us all back to food memories.

Seasonal Farfel: A Hidden Gem

One dish we are especially excited about is farfel. It’s such a fun, versatile product that doesn’t get enough love these days, even though many Ashkenazi Jews grew up with it. To us, it feels like a hidden gem! Later this year, we’ll roll out a green bean and pesto farfel, and we’re already working on cozy fall and winter variations to keep the tradition alive in fresh new ways.

Expanding Our Bakery Favorites

We’re also giving our bakery menu some extra love. Starting soon, we’ll feature a monthly babka flavor and a monthly rugelach flavor, along with more sweet surprises. Requests are already coming in — thank you, Nancy Kennedy Barnett, for sparking the idea with your poppyseed babka request!

Food as Memory & Tradition

Food carries powerful memories. It connects us to childhood, to our loved ones, and to generations before us. One family tradition I cherish is making my family’s gefilte fish recipe. On Rosh Hashanah, my dad reminded me of how his father always said: “The gefilte fish isn’t ready until you can taste the pepper in the air.”

We all grow up with these kinds of food “rules.” In my family, my grandfather firmly declared we were not a sweet kugel family — and of course, the debate over sweet vs. savory kugel continues to this day. And even more famous than kugel: the great matzah ball debate — floaters vs. sinkers!

In our home, I see how tradition continues: my daughter Rebecca bakes challah, Eva adores gefilte fish, and Miriam loves chicken soup with matzah balls. These foods connect us back to who we are and keep traditions alive.

Keeping Traditions Alive at Mosaic

Part of the joy at Mosaic is finding ways to bring life back to these traditional foods. Our Knish Mondays are born from that love. I’m also reading a book right now about the disappearance of Jewish delis, which reminds me just how important it is to preserve and celebrate the foods that shaped us.

We Want to Hear From You!

Now, we want to know: What old family menu ideas or nostalgic dishes do you want to see on our menu? Do you miss a childhood favorite? A dish your grandparents always served? Or maybe a flavor you think deserves a comeback? Share your thoughts — we’d love to bring them to life and keep our community’s food traditions thriving.

✨ Send us your requests, stories, or favorite family menu ideas — you just might see them on the Mosaic menu soon!
