On Monday, we had the incredible honor of catering a beautiful wedding, and I have to admit—weddings are one of my absolute favorite events. There is something so special about being part of a day that celebrates love, family, tradition, and community.
This was our first wedding at Ovation Communities, and what an unforgettable experience it was.
The celebration brought together people from across the country for the bride’s family while also surrounding the groom with generations of friends and family from Milwaukee’s west side Jewish community. It was especially meaningful to see Ovation residents become part of the celebration as well, creating an event that truly spanned generations.
The day began with the traditional Tish and Kabbalat Panim in the Jewish Home before everyone gathered on the balcony overlooking the lake for the chuppah. Watching the couple exchange vows with that beautiful backdrop was truly memorable.
Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed a lively shmorg in the Chai Point lobby before moving into Peck for spirited dancing. The formal seated dinner then continued in Rubenstein, allowing the celebration to flow beautifully from one space to the next.
From a catering perspective, there were a lot of moving pieces. Our team worked incredibly hard to stay one step ahead as the celebration moved throughout the building. One of my favorite moments was watching my staff pause for just a minute to catch a glimpse of the chuppah from the windows in Rubenstein before getting right back to work. Even while serving, they couldn’t help but smile as they watched the joy unfold.
The dancing, singing, laughter, and overwhelming happiness filled every room. It was the kind of simcha that reminds you why these traditions have endured for generations.
One of the biggest reasons I found my way into this business is because I genuinely love the Milwaukee Jewish community. We come from different neighborhoods, belong to different congregations, and observe Judaism in different ways, yet we remain deeply connected. The friendships, family ties, and working relationships that weave throughout our community continue to amaze me.
Every event allows me to strengthen those connections and build new ones. The west side community, in particular, holds a special place in my heart. I spent my early childhood living there until I was seven years old, so returning always feels a little like coming home.
One especially meaningful moment during the evening was seeing Rabbi Michel Twerski. I told him that he had officiated my naming ceremony when I was a baby. With a smile, he asked me what he had named me. When I told him, he asked, “How have you lived into that name?” My answer was simple: “I try very hard.” It was a brief conversation, but one that will stay with me for a long time.
As if the evening couldn’t get any better, I also found myself in an impromptu brainstorming session with several community members about future events, classes, and foods they’d love to see. I absolutely love those conversations because they remind me that our community is always growing and always looking for new ways to gather around the table. I left with pages of ideas—and now I have some work to do!
Moments like these remind me that catering isn’t just about preparing great food. It’s about helping create memories, bringing people together, strengthening community, and celebrating life’s most meaningful moments. Being welcomed into people’s happiest days is a privilege that I never take for granted.
As Shabbat begins this evening, I find myself especially grateful. Grateful for the opportunity to serve our community, to celebrate alongside families during life’s most meaningful moments, and to witness the joy that comes when generations gather together in love and tradition.
Shabbat gives us the chance to pause from the busyness of the week and appreciate the blessings around us. This week, one of those blessings was being part of such a beautiful simcha and being reminded that food is so much more than what is served on a plate. It creates connections, strengthens relationships, preserves traditions, and brings people together.
