Last week, I had the opportunity to hear Esther Safran Foer speak at a Yom HaShoah program in Washington, DC. Listening to her talk about the work she’s done at Sixth & I—and how she’s built meaningful, creative ways to connect with Jews who hadn’t previously been engaged—was incredibly inspiring.
But what stood out even more to me was a small, unexpected moment. While I was working the VIP portion of the event, she came up to me and asked if I was the caterer. I said yes—and instead of moving on, she was genuinely interested in me and my business. It caught me off guard. Here she was, brought in to speak about her impactful, far-reaching work, and she took the time to ask questions, to connect.
Then, after her talk—right before heading into the larger event—she came back to me again, continuing the conversation, wanting to share more. It felt personal, intentional, and honestly, really special.
Hearing her speak reinforced something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately: timing matters, passion matters, and connection matters. No matter where we come from or what we do, there are threads that tie us together across the Jewish community. Sometimes you see them in big ways—and sometimes in these small, human moments that stay with you.
This past week has also been a week—in the best and most intense way. So many good things happening, and I’m incredibly grateful for my team. At the same time, it’s clear we’re growing and need to expand so we can truly be ready for what’s ahead.
We’re heading into a big weekend:
- A bar mitzvah celebration
- And our Yom Ha’atzmaut community event on Sunday
We are SO excited. The team is especially pumped about what we’re putting out:
- Shawarma nachos
- Za’atar wings
- And of course, desserts like krembo, halva, and more
It’s moments like these—events, gatherings, shared food, shared stories—that remind me why we do what we do.
We hope to see you there. And don’t forget—register ahead!
