The school year is getting started, and it feels like life is beginning to return to its non-summer rhythm.
For me personally, this week has felt a little more normal too — and yet I keep wondering, should it?
We recently prepared a meal of consolation and a shiva meal for a family, and the woman whose husband passed away had grown up next door to my mom. That connection brought back so many memories for me. It was one of those moments where work and life overlap in a way that feels especially meaningful.
We also have a wedding today, which is fun and feels good. I’m slowly getting my head back in it, catching up, and finding my way back into the rhythm of work and everyday life.
At the café, we’re seeing more activity as kids come home from camp and families get back into their routines. This fall, we’re excited to launch our new Kids Healthy Eating Club, with a stamp card to encourage kids to choose some of our healthier options — especially those after-school kids who are here on their own and making their own snack and meal choices.
And before we know it, the High Holidays will be here. Our Rosh Hashanah menu is up, and we’re excited to already have orders rolling in. It always feels like the season is really beginning when the holiday cooking starts.
We also have our next Israeli Brunch on August 16th, and I’m really hoping for a full room — people enjoying good food, visiting with one another, and just having a good time together. If you can come, please let us know. I would love to see the room filled.
As we head into this busy season, we’d also love to hear from you. If there are foods, snacks, kids’ options, or anything else you’d like to see at the café, let us know.
There’s a lot happening, and for me, a lot of it is about slowly getting back to life — carrying the memories with me while also moving forward into what’s next.

Your Mom will always have a special place in my heart! Hannah, you truly are a great role model and an amazing woman and take after your Mom! Your delicious Israeli Brunches keep getting better every time I come. Thank you for all that you do!
