The Heart Behind the Hustle

This week has been a busy one. It feels like every week somehow gets a little busier than the last, and while there are certainly moments that can feel overwhelming, I find myself incredibly grateful.

I am especially grateful for the team behind me. Without them, none of this would be possible.

Years ago, when I was building my business, there were plenty of nights when it was just me, working late into the evening, often with my kids helping wherever they could. We did what we had to do, and while those years taught me a lot, they were not always easy. That’s why having an incredible team today means so much to me.

Last Sunday was our monthly brunch. In the chaos of everything going on, I completely forgot to schedule staff for the event. By Friday, I realized my mistake and was scrambling, asking people if they could help. Going into Shabbat, I had pretty much resigned myself to the idea that I would just have to work my tush off on Sunday and do the best I could.

Sunday morning, I came in early and got right to work. I was trying to get as much done as possible, knowing I had two newer staff members coming in and assuming we’d just make it work somehow. Then I turned around and saw two of my more seasoned staff members walk through the door.

I immediately started to cry.

It may sound silly, but in that moment it truly meant so much to me. They showed up last minute on a Sunday because they knew we needed help. They didn’t have to. They simply stepped up to support the team and support me.

This week has been another reminder of how lucky I am. We have had some staff out, which has meant everyone else has had to pitch in, adjust schedules, take on extra responsibilities, and work together to make sure everything gets done. It hasn’t always been easy, but they have shown up every day with positive attitudes and a willingness to help one another.

When people see the food we create, the events we cater, the café running day after day, or the brunches we host, they often see Mosaic Catering and Café. What they don’t always see is the incredible group of people behind it all. The bakers who come in before sunrise. The cooks preparing hundreds of meals. The servers, dishwashers, supervisors, managers, and everyone else who works hard behind the scenes.

I am so proud of what we are building together, and I know without question that I could never do what I do without them.

To my team: thank you for showing up, for caring, for supporting one another, and for making Mosaic what it is. I appreciate you more than you know.

Shabbat Shalom.
